Why do I need Exact Fare?
The MTA automatically adds an 5% bonus to the amount you put on your MetroCard, which is great, but they require all amounts be in 5 cent increments which makes is very difficult to calculate how much money you need. For example if you use the $20 shortcut at the machine you will get a total balance of $22.20. After 8 swipes you will be left with $0.20 on your MetroCard that is impossible to use.
